This sixth edition of the Gault&Millau awards brings the top Swiss winemakers in the limelight beyond the Swiss borders.

Widely grown but little known, Switzerland’s champion white grape is starting to attract the attention of wine enthusiasts outside its homeland.

Every year, Swiss Wine Promotion in cooperation with the acclaimed Gault & Millau gastronomic guide, nominates the Swiss winemakers who produce exceptional wines and contribute to the promotion of Swiss wine quality in Switzerland and abroad.

The number of Swiss wines rated above 90 points by Robert Parker’s  magazine in its second report on Switzerland came in as a nice surprise to open a promising 2017 year for Swiss wines. The iconic Marie-Thérèse Chappaz or Martin Donatsch, the Estate Jean-René Germanier and a few more have all received between 93 and 97 Parker points.

For many centuries, faced with the lack of safe drinking water, wine was recommended as a alternative. It was also prescribed as an antiseptic for treating wounds, a digestive aid and a cure for a wide range of ailments from lethargy and diarrhoea to easing the pain of childbirth.
